100% Vigilant 2017
Laisse
As part of the “Laisse” exhibition, Eric Mailloux and Ursula Oberholzer are offering a series of grotesque drawings and provocative prints that resemble posters, playing with words. These works are intended to show disaster scenes - fictitious or real - which are specific to the oil industry and the people who work there, the omnipresence of the car and the absurdity of this culture of transport in our lives. This project is meant to raise awareness of the sometimes fatal consequences of this reality on pedestrians, cyclists and, to a greater extent, on the environment.
The use of the same prints in Ursula’s work highlights the repetition of offenses committed against pedestrians and cyclists by motorists and increasingly by truckers. Also, the application of the stamp brings an indelible mark that cannot be ignored, a bit like a seal of the ministry on an official document. The print works well with the "poster" format that are used in this series of works, because like the poster, it can be printed several times. Finally, the poster is an excellent vehicle for raising public awareness in an obvious and direct way.
