Anthropo-scenes
Anthropocene, the era of Homo sapiens. This series of oil and large scenic paintings chronicles the apocalyptic world we live in, and that inescapably surrounds us. Each painting captures the chaos of the world. Starting from miscellaneous news items and inspired by iconic art and images like “The Great Wave” by Hokusai or Trump’s photo plastered everywhere on the internet, I have created a series that chronicles for example our behavior, its effects on the state of the environment, and its consequential impact on human lives. Sometimes there is a direct link between elements of a painting, and sometimes there is not, just as it is impossible to predict the consequences of our daily gestures. The incoherence in scale and juxtaposed elements is meant to illustrate the chaos. Humor is a large part of my imagery, and the irreverent references to biblical and political figures lessen their self-importance. With this series of oversized paintings, I am depicting Homo sapiens as part of a global world, and I question my actions on the environment.
